2016-2017 Hmong Wisconsin New Year
It’s that time of year again! The Hmong Wisconsin New Year committee has been working hard on planning this year event. This event is organized and operated by volunteer in our community.
Every year, the Hmong Center of Green Bay, Inc. sponsors a cultural enrichment event that highlights the Hmong’s past and present traditions to the general public. Through the continued generosity of financial donors and sponsors in the community, this 2-day event has always been delivered completely free to the public.
While this event serves for many Hmong, a time to celebrate the end of a year and a new beginning of another, it is also a life-learning experience and cultural enrichment awareness for many others. Traditionally, this is a time where the Hmong will dress in their finest traditional clothing to interact in a respectful manner through a game of “ball tossing” and are encouraged by the elders to befriend others from different clans in the hope that these friendships will later develop into marriages. Over the years, many other programs and activities have been incorporated into this celebration such as folklore dancing & singing competitions, music, foods, games, commercial vendors, and much more.
