Description
Jitterbug and jive bring the Meyer Theatre alive variety style for the nonprofit organization’s 2009 fundraiser. The swing era serves as the entertainment backdrop for Starstruck: Swingin’ With The ‘30s and Beyond!, Saturday, November 7, at 8 p.m.
The ‘30s decade reflects the theatre’s beginnings when it first opened its performance-palace doors as the Fox Theatre on Valentine’s Day 1930.
“The ‘30s, as part of this swing era theme, also fits in with all the excitement over the recent filming of Public Enemies in our region,” said Jim Rivett, Meyer Theatre board member and marketing committee chairperson. “We’re encouraging the Meyer audience to come dressed in their ‘30s’ finest, ready to have some fun at this year’s Starstruck.”
Acting as the evening’s celebrity emcees are WBAY’s George Graphos and Frank Hermans of Let Me Be Frank Productions. Bay City Swing will share the stage, and more than a dozen local acts are scheduled to perform the music that made this era swing. Among them, Knights on Broadway and members of Let Me Be Frank Productions.
All proceeds from the event benefit the nonprofit Meyer Theatre to help maintain its operations, as well as support the integrity of the building’s restoration. The show is presented by The Selmer Co.
